Ratheane Resident George Fullerton celebrates his 101st birthday!

26th January 2018

Ratheane resident George Fullerton is if full of wise words, wisdom and happiness. It’s not every day one can say they have reached their 101st Birthday, an amazing achievement from an even more amazing resident.

Of course you can’t have a birthday without a birthday party! The team at Ratheane Nursing Home got together and organised a birthday bash for George on 22nd January 2018. A fantastic day was had by all; George was surrounded by all of his friends and several generations of his family. The room was decorated with fabulous birthday balloons and banners and in came the most marvellous birthday cake (it even had Happy 101st Birthday George iced on to it!). Everyone sang ‘Happy Birthday to you’ and George ended the serenade by blowing out the candles – we will never know what George wished for as it’s bad luck to say, but one thing is for certain, it looked like all of George’s wishes came true that day as he was surrounded by his loving wife and family.

When asked what the secret to a long a happy life is, George simply replied, “Being well looked after”. The team at Ratheane Nursing Home really put our ethos ‘caring with heart’ at the forefront of their minds, they go the extra mile for their residents and it shows in how happy they all are.

As we previously mentioned, George is full of wise words and when asked for some words of wisdom he said, “Keep looking up”.  He also added that it feels good to be 101 years old and he has no fear of dying because he is going to heaven. George is always singing and full of happiness; I think it’s safe to say we can all take a leaf out of George’s book on his attitude towards life – what an amazing man.
