The Irish Cup Came to Ratheane
19th May 2026
Residents and staff at Ratheane Care Home in Coleraine enjoyed an unforgettable celebration following Coleraine FC’s recent Irish Cup success, as the team paid a special visit bringing the trophy with them. The visit marked a wonderful occasion for everyone at the home, giving residents the chance to get up close to the coveted cup and share in the pride and excitement of the victory.
In the lead-up to the final, the home was filled with Bannsider spirit. Residents enjoyed visits from players Lewis Webb and Lewis McGregor, spent time with Benny the Bannsider, and were entertained by Cellar Door performing “Have You Ever Seen Coleraine.” A range of football-themed activities also brought a wonderful sense of excitement and togetherness throughout the home.
The celebrations even made the local press, with Ratheane featured in the Coleraine Chronicle. If you missed the article, not to worry – it is now on display in the home’s reception for visitors and residents to enjoy.

Some residents also have special personal connections to the club. Emma Kearney spent 20 years working at Coleraine FC as the club’s dedicated launderer, preparing kits for teams across all levels and becoming a familiar and valued figure behind the scenes.

Eileen McFaul shares a connection through her husband, Iam McFaul, who began his football career at Coleraine FC before going on to play for Linfield, Newcastle United and the Northern Ireland international team, later returning to Coleraine where he finished his career in management.

A huge thank you to Coleraine FC and everyone involved for creating such meaningful and joyful experiences for residents at Ratheane.
