There was great excitement at Our Lady’s Care Home this Good Friday as we celebrated a remarkable milestone for one of our much‑loved residents. Tommy, a lifelong motorbike enthusiast and recently retired biker, marked his 90th birthday in an incredible way.

To honour his big birthday, members of the City of Belfast Advanced Motorcyclists (CoBAM) rolled up to the Belfast care home in true biker fashion – engines humming, helmets gleaming, and spirits high. The visit came about after one of our care staff reached out to CoBAM, inviting them for tea, buns, and a very special celebration.

Tommy was overjoyed to be reunited with the biking community, and he wasted no time sharing stories from his many years on the road. From touring Donegal with his wife riding pillion on his RD 200, to memories of his MV Augusta and Ariel Atom.

An individual stands indoors using a mobility aid. The individual is wearing a high‑visibility vest over a dark top and a cap with visible printed text that includes the number “1936.” The person is positioned in the foreground, holding the handles of the mobility aid. A gift bag is placed on the seat section of the mobility aid. Behind the individual, there is a sofa with striped upholstery, cushions, and a wooden wall feature with glass panels. Further into the background, more furnishings and decorations are visible, including balloons and hanging décor in a room with a wooden floor.

Tommy described the surprise as “the best day of his life”. While we’re sure he has had many wonderful days across his 90 years, it was a privilege to witness the joy this visit brought him. We are incredibly grateful to the riders of the City of Belfast Advanced Motorcyclists for their time, kindness, and enthusiasm in helping us make Tommy’s milestone birthday so special.

Happy Birthday Tommy! Here’s to health, happiness, and many more wonderful days ahead.
