Macklin Care Homes Celebrates World Book Day

1st March 2018

Celebrating World Book Day, Macklin Care Homes Care Assistant Supervisor Yvonne McCandless, is pictured reading with Bernadette McToal, aged 80 at our Ratheane Nursing Home, Coleraine.

During World Book Day, Thursday 1st March, many of our Homes invited the wonderful local school children to read their favourite books and share stories of their favourite tales with the residents. Due to the snowy weather, many of the school children couldn’t attend but our fantastic team members were on standby to read and enjoy World Book Day with our residents.

It is one of our residents favourite occasion days to celebrate as reading is such a great way of communicating in groups. They find great joy in telling their friends and family about their favourite stories and poetry. Ratheane even held their very own Robbie Burns night back in January were the residents recited the much loved Burns poetry and celebrated all things Scottish.

Gareth Macklin, Director at Macklin Care Homes added: We enjoy celebrating National days across the six Macklin Care Homes as it is a great way to bring the residents, staff, their families and often the local community together.  Concepts like World Book Day encourage Macklin staff to create new initiatives, helping link generations between our care homes.”
