Milesian Manor get a special visit from Magherafelt Primary School

World Book Day was celebrated on Thursday by millions of people across the globe, but in Milesian Manor, Magherafelt the celebrations were extra special as the residents got a wonderful visit from the children from Magherafelt Primary School. This wasn’t any ordinary visit as the children were dressed up as their favourite book characters to celebrate the day!

The residents we overjoyed by the presence of the lively children who came to read their favourite stories. We had Dennis the Menace, Harry Potter, Dungeons and Dragons and even a few Ghostbusters!

The enthusiastic young readers spent the day telling tales of their favourite fictions to our residents while having tea and biscuits. It was a special day for all involved, something as simple as spending the day together reading brought so much joy to our residents and the young children.

Catriona Doole, Deputy Nurse Manager at Macklin Care Homes added: “It’s very important that our residents can learn and appreciate new activities, and it’s even better when the old and the young come together to enjoy a classic hobby that spans the generations” 

This year was the 21st annual World Book Day, which is marked in over 100 countries worldwide. It is an annual celebration of books and reading, and the biggest celebration of its kind designated by UNESCO.
