Annie Lake’s Celebration Party for IHCP ‘Flourishing Resident Award’

27th October 2017

Annie Lake, Ratheane Care Home resident, Coleraine, has been named winner of the ‘Flourishing Resident Award’ at the recent Independent Health Care Awards 2017, which took place at the Malone Lodge Hotel, Belfast. The Flourishing Award is one of The Independent Health and Care Provider’s most prestigious awards, recognising the growth and development residents make once entering residential or nursing care which can affect others’ lives as well as their own. The award also celebrates the contribution made to both the care home and the wider community.

Annie, 92, moved into Ratheane Care home in 2015 and soon made her mark, getting involved and participating in the daily activities laid on within the home. Working with the staff, Annie has set-up a knitting club, producing blankets which are donated to a hospital in Central Africa for patients, new mums and new born babies. To date Annie has knitted and donated 51 blankets.

Ratheane Care Home Nurse Manager, Araceli Flores, said:

“We at Ratheane care home are thrilled that Annie’s work and selfless attitude has been recognised and rewarded independently. She is such an important member of the Ratheane community and has made a huge difference to the home.

“Annie has such a strong relationship with both the residents and the staff, and we were all so pleased to hear that she was announced the winner of such an admired award.”

A party took place at the Ratheane Care Home which saw her family members, fellow residents, staff and even the commissioner for older people all come together to celebrate Annie’s award. Afternoon tea was enjoyed while Evelyn Joyce, Activities Therapist, gave a touching speech that was followed by a rousing rendition of “for she’s a jolly good fellow”.   Annie then got to cut her specially made cake – a lovely memorable day was enjoyed by everyone.
