PIPS Charity Pub Quiz Fundraiser

2nd October 2017

Arlington Nursing Home get the staff together in fundraiser night in aid of PIPS

The staff from Arlington Nursing Home put in a tremendous amount of effort in organising the first Macklin Care Homes pub quiz in aid of PIPS – the Public Initiative for Prevention of Suicide and Self Harm. Held in Malone Lodge Hotel, staff members from a range of our homes all joined together to support this worthy cause.

Our very own Chef Graham was the host for the evening; he sure knew how to work the crowd. The quiz questions had everything from general knowledge to history and even music. Five rounds later the winner was revealed with the head office ranking 1st place.

Mary Macklin then took to the stage to make an announcement that a very treasured member of staff (Janet Rea, Activities Therapist at Arlington) had finally received UK Citizenship and presented her with a bottle of bubbly. Terry the music man then performed a few all time favourites that got the room singing and dancing.

To finish off the night Kathy McStravick (Administrator at Arlington) began her hostess duties and kick started the raffle ballet. The top table was filled with generous donated prizes and up came each raffle winner to pick their gift. Terry the music man then sang the night away and everyone had a great night.

Whilst everyone had a ball it was of course all for a good cause – PIPS Charity can provide support to individuals who are considering, or who have at some point considered, ending their own lives. PIPS can also provide support for families who have been touched by suicide, click here for more information.

The final total raised was an astounding £363.50. Hopefully this won’t be the last charity pub quiz, but let’s hope the questions are slightly easier next time!
