Parkmanor take on the Belfast Marathon

3rd May 2017

Macklin Care Homes pound the pavements once again for the Belfast City Marathon

It’s often said that exercise is a form of medicine. Studies have shown that running can help prevent obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure. What’s more, scientists have shown that running also vastly improves the quality of your emotional health, and even helps you live longer. With that in mind, and the fact that the Park Manor Care Home team loves a challenge, the 2017 Belfast City Marathon was the prime opportunity to get up and running and enter relay team!

On a bright and sunny Bank Holiday Monday, 1st May, the Park Manor relay team ran 26.2 miles alongside 15,000 runners. The team was made up of runners of different abilities but all with one goal in mind which was to raise funds in aid of our nominated charity, the Alzheimer’s Society.

Having pounded the pavements training in the weeks leading up to the big day, the Marathon started at Belfast City Hall, with the route taking in all parts of the City, and finishing in Ormeau Park.

Everyone did fantastic on the day and really pulled together as a team to complete the distance in just over 4 hours! Although there were a few sore legs and feet everyone was still smiling at the finish line high on energy and endorphins!

Other members of the Park Manor team took part in the fun run, also raising money for Alzheimer’s Society. They enjoyed it so much that they commented that their goal is to run a leg of the marathon next year!

In addition to the hours training and the run on the day itself, the team was delighted to be raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society. We’re already drafting the entry forms for 2018!
